Overview

In design technology, children learn through hands-on, creative activities that help them design and make purposeful products. They are guided through a simple design process of researching, planning, making and evaluating, which helps them to think carefully and develop confidence in their ideas.

Pupils are encouraged to work together, solve problems and persevere when things don’t go as planned, helping them to become resilient and reflective learners. Wherever possible, design technology is linked to other subjects such as maths, science and art, and children learn how their designs relate to real life and the wider world. Through this, they develop respect for others, an understanding of safety and an appreciation that everyone’s ideas are valuable.
