At Nether Edge Primary School, school life is shaped by our shared values and our belief in the very best for every child.

Our SHAPE ethos underpins everything we do and helps children to be:

Safe

Happy and healthy

Achieving their potential

Playing a positive part in school life

Excited by learning every day

The Nether Edge Way

The Nether Edge Way describes how we work together as a school community. It reflects approaches that are grounded in educational research, shaped by our local context and proven to work well for our children. High expectations and a clear focus on what is best for each child sit at the heart of this approach.

The Nether Edge 5

We also live out the Nether Edge 5, which guide behaviour and attitudes across the school:

Show kindness always

Show that manners matter

Show STAR in our learning

Walk like champions

Take pride in all that we do

Together, these values create a calm, caring and purposeful environment where children feel supported, valued and able to thrive.

Pupil leadership

At Nether Edge, children are given leadership opportunities that help them become more independent and feel proud of their school. These roles encourage children to take responsibility, lead by example and play an active part in school life.

Leadership roles include:

  • Reader leaders
  • Sports Ambassadors
  • Pride in our School Team
  • Science Ambassadors
  • Assembly Monitors
  • Green Team

Active Travel

Nether Edge Primary School is part of the Modeshift STAR accreditation. This is national scheme that works with schools to develop active and sustainable ways of travelling to school.

As part of the scheme, we encourage all pupils to walk, wheel or scoot to school if possible. Or, if necessary, we encourage ‘park and stride’ which means parking outside of a 10 minute walking bubble, and then walking the rest.

Click here to access more information on our walking bubble.

We also complete daily Travel Trackers where children can win badges for walking to school, and take part in Walk to School Week, Bike Week and other national initiatives.

Why are we taking part?

  • To make the roads safer
  • To make the area less polluted
  • To ensure our children keep active
  • To promote fun and sustainable ways to travel

School Streets

What is it?

Nether Edge Primary School takes part in the School Street closure scheme which aims to tackle air pollution and road safety.

Why do we do it?

  • Helps reduce congestion and improve air quality at the school gates
  • Makes it easier and safer to walk or cycle to school
  • Creates calmer and more welcoming school entrances
